The group consists of elected members, representatives of local voluntary sport and Armagh City and District Council Officers. For many years Armagh City and District Council had hoped that such a grouping would be founded to advise on the local direction of sport. The group who are enthusiastic and responsible help advise on Armagh City and District Council sports/recreation strategic issues such as policy, facilities, youth development and funding. The flagship for Armagh Sports Forum is the Annual Sports Awards held in May. The Awards Night recognises the performances and contribution of local clubs and individuals. The group is funded by Armagh City and District Council in association with Sports Council for Northern Ireland but the forum does have the capacity to draw down additional funding. Indeed Armagh Sports Forum have successfully appointed a Women's Sports Project Officer in association with European Union Special Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.
