Information:
Armagh Old Boys Silver Band has the distinction of being known both as a marching band and also as a concert band. Formed in 1895 with members of 1st Armagh Boys' Brigade they played as a melody flute band until 1908 when they changed to a brass and reed band.
During their early years they often accompanied children and their parents on their annual Sunday School excursions to Warrenpoint. The band would have paraded to the railway station and enjoyed the picnic and refreshments before making the return journey home.
In more recent years the band has been called on to play at many functions, some at short notice, perhaps the most notable of these was during president Clintons visit to Armagh. A programme was hastily prepared with only 48 hours notice and the performance was shown live on National and International television.
