The Rural Planning Policy Review:
Meeting the Needs of Future
Generations
Chartered Institute of Housing Seminar
Thursday 28th February
2008
Rural Community Network, Main Street, Cookstown
Rural planning policy has been centre stage following the introduction of,
and subsequent legal challenge to, PPS14. Since December, the Department
of the Environment has had legal responsibility for rural planning policy.
With a review of PPS14 in place, the time is right to debate sustainable rural
planning policy; and ensure it delivers for all rural communities.
The seminar will consider the following key questions:
- How do we ensure that rural planning policy reflects the needs and
complexities of the rural context?
- To what extent should rural planning policy recognise the distinctions
between rural dwellers and speculators?
- What must be included within a rural planning policy to secure the future of
the local and regional economy?
- How should rural planning policy reflect the diversity of the rural
population?
