Department of Education Consultation - Youth Services

PRIORITIES FOR YOUTH

At the end of May 2008, Education Minister, Caitriona Ruane launched the first phase of formal engagement on the development of " Priorities for Youth" by publishing questionnaires to obtain the views of those with an interest in the Youth Service and its services for children and young people .  This is part of a process which will determine the policy priorities for the youth sector over the next few years.

There are three questionnaires available:

  • Managers in youth and other relevant children's services - this will determine the views of managers in the youth service and other children's services.
  • Youth workers, leaders and volunteers - it is important that we obtain the view of those frontline workers in contact with young people on a regular basis.
  • Children and young people - it is vital that we hear from our children and young people as to what they want from a youth service.

The success of this process will be dependant on obtaining responses from a wide range of people involved in the management and delivery of services to young people, as well as hearing from the children and young people themselves.

I would therefore appreciate if you could complete a questionnaire, and encourage colleagues providing services for young people in your area to complete a questionnaire. It would also be very helpful if you have links to groups working with young people, that you encourage those groups, their workers and the young people they work with to complete a questionnaire.

The questionnaires are available to download from the  Department's website

The closing date for responses is 30th September.
