Free Electric Blanket Testing
Each year in the Southern Trust area approximately 50 percent of the electric
blankets tested are faulty and present a fire risk to the owner. This FREE
service enables older people to have their electric blanket tested for free.
The service is predominantly aimed at older people who tend to use blankets
as a cheap form of heating or to relieve aches and pains, however no one will be
turned away. With the recent economic hardships, many older people may resort to
using blankets as a means to keep warm this winter.
Individuals whose blankets fail the safety test will be given a voucher for
£15.00 to redeem against the purchase of a new blanket (redeemable at a number
of local retailers who stock electric blankets). Information will also be
provided on Electric blanket use, storage and handling as well as general home
safety.
