Update on "Rural Older People - Skills for
Solutions" Programme
The Project Advisory Group of the ‘Rural Older People - Skills for Solutions’
Programme met for the first time on 24 November.
The Programme which is still very much in its infancy aims to develop the
skills of rural older people to develop innovative solutions to key challenges
which impact on their daily lives.
The Programme will work through a
community development approach to develop four live tested pilot programmes
throughout rural Northern Ireland over the next five years.
The Project
Advisory Group is made up of key individuals from government departments, the
public and the voluntary sectors and will provide advice and guidance on
developing the project.
Recommendations from the first meeting of the group include preparing area
profiles of possible places to develop pilot projects, looking at other models
of good practice outside Northern Ireland where community initiatives have
improved quality of life for rural older people and beginning to look at
strategic approaches to accessing match funding required for this
Programme.
